Introduction

The primary area of our research is coastal oceanography and coastal engineering. We focus on specific research topics including hydrodynamics of coral and algal reefs, sediment transport, nearshore turbulence, surf-zone dynamics and ocean wave dynamics.

Cheng's research focuses on exploring the dynamics of nearshore environments and mechanisms of coastal change.

The laboratory focuses on nearshore hydrology, wave and hydrodynamic forces, sedimentation, and ecological interactions, combining theoretical, observational, and numerical models to provide a comprehensive knowledge framework from Earth-scale oceanography to nearshore fine-grained dynamics.

Through cross-domain integration of ocean science, coastal engineering, and disaster management, students develop the ability to understand natural mechanisms, analyze environmental issues, and apply them, aiming to enhance research energy and technological advancements in coastal and nearshore environment observation, forecasting, simulation, and sustainability.
